- In the first section you will copy classical drawings as a way to learn the technique and values. Once you have learned the technique you will move on to statue drawing which will help you to draw the three-dimensional forms.
- Drawing is a process of trial and error. The ability to correct yourself is essential to your personal development.
- You will learn the sight-size method used in the 19th century by the French school.
- You will also use the comparative measurement method, learn when to use each of these methods and the advantages of each.

- You will learn how to adjust the scale of values to represent light and shapes.
- The use of angles, shapes and negative shapes to determine the proportion of the drawing.
- At the beginning we will use pencil and then move on to the use of charcoal which mimics painting with a wider range of values.
- Once you know the technique you will proceed to apply it to cast drawing.
- The more advanced students proceed to use the technique in grisaille painting; where they applied what they learned in the drawing class.
ABOUT SAUL ROLDAN
Saul Roldan, born in Brooklyn NY, I started drawing and painting at a very early age. Later I had the opportunity to study classical art. I studied at Pennsylvania academy of fine art, Art student league in NY. Due to family responsibilities I had to divert my interest and entered the field of graphic design where I worked as an illustrator and book and magazine designer. Six years ago, I went to Florence academy of fine art, in the NJ branch, to study sight and size techniques, since then I have been painting full time.
In my painting I practice several classic techniques such as grisaille, Venetian under painting, finishing it with glazes. Sometimes I use the direct painting method. But I usually paint in layers. I like to paint with strong shadows that highlight the lights and the forms.
