“Finally, watercolor made simple.”

Line and Wash was once a popular method of creating a watercolor painting. Artists have used many a variety tools to create line drawings with ink prior to watercolor. Essentially, the process of making a watercolor painting via a dynamic line drawing is “easier.”

ABOUT PAUL ALLEN TAYLOR

Rochester NY Artist Paul Allen Taylor is self-taught in the medium of watercolor centered on landscape, however, much of his work encompasses water; thus, he considers himself a maritime artist. An avid boater, and having grown up around the water, it only makes sense that this would be the focus of his work. Whether on the water or near the water, Paul finds it all relatable. Show him the boatyard and he’s ready to go. If he sees water, he knows he will find something to paint.

Paul began using watercolor with ink after seeing UK artist John Hoar doing the same. It gives his work spontaneity and a free approach to applying paint. As a workshop instructor, he teaches this technique to his students showing them that the process makes watercolor easier when combined with a dynamic drawing. A drawing done in plein air can be taken back to the studio but most of the time he will finish the work on location.

Paul retired in 2019 after ten years driving a school bus, just one of his many different jobs on his resume. He and his wife purchased a fifth wheel RV and truck to start traveling south for the winters. Someday they would like to travel west where Paul might capture new landscapes with his line and paint.

Paul holds a membership with the American Society of Marine Artists. He has traveled to teach workshops in Florida, Illinois, Cape Cod, Maryland, and Ontario Canada.
