Description
Scratchboard is a fun, unique way of rendering. When we draw, our lines make a positive image. Scratchboard is a two-dimensional subtractive process. It is a white clay board that has a layer of black in sprayed over the board. You use an abrasive tool (Like an X-acto knife) to remove a surface layer of value (usually dark) to expose a lighter layer (white). Even though we are creating a positive image, we are doing it in a subtractive way! Once we scratch our drawing out, we can leave it black and white, or we can add color. You don’t need a whole lot, just a scratchboard, knife, watercolors or ink and your imagination!
