ABOUT Thom Thomas
My name is Thom Thomas. I am a fulltime working artist here in Marion County, Florida. I started my career as a self-taught artist, which opened the doors to a partial scholarship at the Academy of Art in San Francisco California. Drawing is my passion coupled with a great fascination for teaching and sharing artistic techniques gleaned over 30+ years – It is a life I can live. We all have a gift to be creative and to use that creativity to express our true nature. My greatest failure is not that I do not have talent or learned skills, but not knowing my true self. The core mediums I use, graphite, charcoal and color pencil – essentially, any pencil application, are an extension of who I am. I choose subjects that express stark contrast between light and shadow, textures, and subjects ranging from portraits, inanimate objects, or anything that is intriguing. Things are simple. I am trying to ensure I do not become complicated. I already have what I want. I want to draw, teach and share.
