Celebrating Creativity Gala Reception at Chelsea Art Center
June 1 – August 30, 2024

All-media exhibit showcasing local artists

Ocala, FL- Chelsea Art Center (CAC) is celebrating its first anniversary with an all-media art exhibit showcasing world-class works of 21 Central Florida artists. From June through August, the Celebrating Creativity Exhibit includes realism and abstract works, oils, acrylics, watercolor, pastel, collage, encaustic photographs, woodcut print, fused glass, and pencil drawings. This wide spectrum of visual art is representative of the scope of fine arts instruction at Chelsea Art Center.

The public is invited to a free Gala Reception on Sunday, June 30, 2024, from 1-3 pm. Please RSVP online at www.chelseaartcenter.com/register or call 352-804-1272.

Visitors may view the exhibit Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. until August 30, 2024. The all-media show is especially timely for the Center’s first anniversary, owing to the mission to provide a creative space for everyone – ages 7 to 107, to express themselves in any of a broad spectrum of the arts and unique crafts.

In its first year, CAC has held more than 170 classes for about 800 students taught by 42 instructors. Some classes are just a one-hour session, but many are several hours or multiple days. CAC also offers six different 10-week courses in fine arts with instructor Michelle Curry.  CAC continues to add instructors and expand class offerings. Local artists teach most classes, but instructors are occasionally invited from other states and other areas of Florida. These instructors have included the famed “Florida Highwayman” Al Black, who taught two sold-out workshops at CAC, and Preston King of Georgia, who taught a weekend workshop in Pastels. In addition to its scheduled classes, CAC handles requests by unique groups, including homeschooling families.

CAC’s two large classrooms and art library stages workshops, classes, and meetings. Community Stages, a youth theatre group led by Terry LeCompte, rehearses at CAC and holds festive seasonal events for the public. The Ocala Art Group and Ocala Calligraphy Guild have made CAC their home base for meetings, a book club, workshops, and exhibits.
