Description
In the Sumi-e Workshop- “Wild Orchid and Lilies” with Fontaine Rodgers you will explore Japanese Ink Painting and learn the ancient tradition of Japanese Ink Painting using authentic ink and brushes. You will learn the philosophy, history and brush marks that make this a beloved art form.
Friday, June 12, from 10 a.m. -12p.m. Cost $50 – All supplies are included for use during class.
About Sumi-e
Sumi-e means Ink Painting in Japanese. This beloved and ancient art form was practices by Buddhist monks as a form of meditation and continues to grow in popularity worldwide.
The Wild Orchid is one of the four Gentlemen and represents Spring. Traditional brushes and ink are used to make basic strokes including the orchid leaf stroke, bamboo leaf stroke and bone or stem stroke.
A Lily and Dragonfly are also included in this lesson.
About the Instructor
Fontaine Rodgers is a member of the Sumi-e Society of America, Fontaine teaches Sumi-e, Printmaking and Drawing at the Museum of Art-DeLand, the Crealdé Museum of Art in Winter Park, Winter Garden’s SOBO Gallery and is a recent transplant to Ocala! She holds a BFA, cum laude, from the Maryland Institute, College of Art, and is currently the president of the Central Florida Printmakers. She teaches adults, as well as teens, and is a retired International Baccalaureate Art Teacher. Her artwork can be found in collections both in the US and abroad.
