Description
You want to write. Or you are a writer, but you need some new inspiration to break out of old habits and content. Ekphrastic! Using Art as Prompts for Writing is for all levels of writing experience. In this 3-hour writers’ workshop we will learn the fundamentals of ekphrastic writing, using art to inspire us to places we might not otherwise go with our writing.
WHAT TO BRING???
Bring a journal and writing implements (colorful pens are fun – especially if you haven’t used them before), and a willingness to move outside of your comfort zone in a safe space where there are no wrong ways to write, just right ways to find easy inspiration for those moments when the urge to create strikes but the blank page feels imposing.
WHAT IS EKPHRASTIC WRITING????
Ekphrastic writing is a literary work that describes, interprets, or responds to a piece of visual art. It bridges the visual and verbal worlds by turning a static image—like a painting, sculpture, or photograph—into a dynamic piece of literature. Good ekphrasis does more than just list what is in the artwork; it adds imagination, emotion, narrative, or personal interpretation. (AI definition and description)
